BKB Leather was established in 1987. After being forced into a career change by an injury, Bruce Barlow - through many library books and much trial and error - taught himself leatherwork and shoe repair. BKB Leather was born in his home's laundry room. To the relief of his loving and long-suffering wife, Kris, the business quickly grew and moved to a dedicated space near the banks of the Kaw River. A decade later the shop was moved to its current location on the "Barlow Compound", four adjoining properties that have so-far housed four generations of the Barlow family. This complete abandonment of work/life balance has created a unique environment that on any given day can include grandkids doing homework on workbenches, neighbor kids looking for treats, chickens clucking at the back door, the family dogs greeting customers, and friends stopping by for a chat. Many of our customers describe a visit to the shop as a spectacle for the senses as well as a welcoming place to catch up on life's latest while getting care for their leather items.
